The Great Smoky Mountains National Park straddles the border between Tennessee and North Carolina. It is the most visited national park in the United States. It is a hiker's paradise with over 800 miles of maintained trails. But hiking is not the only reason for visiting the Smokies. Fishing, picnicking, wildlife viewing and auto touring are also popular activities. The main park entrances are located along U.S. Highway 441 (Newfound Gap Road) at the towns of Gatlinburg, Tennessee and Cherokee, North Carolina. A good place to start to learn about the Park when you're here is at the Sugarland Visitors Center, which is just as you enter the Park from Gatlinburg. |

Cades Cove is the single most popular destination for visitors to the Great Smoky Mountains National park, attracting over two million visitors a year, due to its well preserved homesteads, scenic mountain views, and abundant display of wildlife. A one-way, eleven mile paved loop around Cades Cove draws thousands of visitors daily. The National Park Service currently maintains several buildings in Cades Cove that are representative of pioneer life in 19th century Appalachia. Popular hiking trails within the cove include the trail to Abrams Falls and the trail to Gregory Bald. In addition to hiking and general sightseeing, horseback and bicycle riding are popular activities. |
